Music industry to tax downloaders
Internet users could face an annual charge of up to £30 to download music, under plans to be unveiled today that aim to tackle illegal file-sharing.
Ministers are backing proposals that would enable millions of broadband users to pay an annual levy which would allow them to copy as much – previously illegal – music from the internet as they wanted. The money raised would be channelled back to the rights-holders, with artists responsible for the most popular songs receiving a bigger slice of the cash

DIDDY’S DENIES CASSIE RUMORS, “THERE IS NO ENGAGEMENT” SAYS REP
Rumors of a possible marriage in the making between Diddy and his Bad Boy signee Cassie have been shaken-off by the rap mogul’s rep.
According to People, a representative for Diddy denied all allegations that the 38 year-old hip-hop icon was eyeing the 21 year-old songstress to be his wife.
“Contrary to tabloid reports, there is no engagement,” the rep told People. “This was a complete fabrication.”
As previously reported by SOHH’s gossip blog, Ya Heard, rumors began to circulate when close friends of Diddy reported him planning a low-key wedding with Cassie. There was no date scheduled but he allegedly told insiders in early June.
In related news, Diddy has teamed with VH1 for a new reality series called “I Want To Work For Diddy” set to debut next month.
The show will focus on 13 applicants competing for the opportunity to work alongside the superstar. Only one contestant will be chosen as they endure emotional, physical, and mental challenges throughout each episode.

Nas Dethrones Lil Wayne Atop Billboard 200
One rapper replaces another atop The Billboard 200 this week, as Nas' untitled Def Jam album dethrones Lil Wayne's Cash Money/Universal set "Tha Carter III." Nas' album sold 187,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, becoming the rapper's fifth No. 1 here.
Nas' prior album, 2006's "Hip-Hop Is Dead," also debuted at No. 1 but sold 354,000 over Christmas week. Meanwhile, after three non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, "Tha Carter III" slips to No. 2 with a 15% sales decrease to 105,000.
The Decca soundtrack to "Mamma Mia!," the film adaptation of the hit theatrical musical based on ABBA's songbook, experiences an 89% sales boost after the movie hit theaters Friday (and earned the highest grossing weekend opening ever for a musical); it climbs 7-3 with 91,000. Coldplay's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" (Capitol) slips 2-4 with 90,000 (-20%), while the Jonas Brothers-led soundtrack to Disney's "Camp Rock" descends 3-5 with 78,000 (-12%).

Spike Lee to film Broadway show
US director Spike Lee is planning to make a film of the award-winning Broadway musical Passing Strange.
Lee, known for movies such as Malcolm X and Do the Right Thing, will film the production on 19 July, along with two more performances without audiences.
The musical will then end its run in New York on the following day. It tells the tale of a young man's journey through sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.

NAS JOINS PROTEST AGAINST FOX

On the track “Sly Fox,” off his newly released album, Nas calls the Fox network out for feeding viewers “toxins.” Now he's joining over 600,000 others who are protesting what they deem as media poison from the news network.
Nas recently joined a campaign waged by grassroots organizations ColorofChange.org and MoveOn.org to deliver well over a half a million signatures to stop what they call racist smearing against African-Americans, including possible democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. They’ll drop the petition off at the Fox’s Manhattan headquarters tomorrow.
On “Sly Fox,” he raps, "Watch what you watchin', Fox keeps feeding us toxins, Stop sleeping, Start thinking" and "I pledge allegiance to the fair and balanced truth/Not the biased truth/Not the liar's truth/But the highest truth."
The protesters charge Fox with broadcasting a “veiled attempt to prey on racism and intolerance and cast the Obamas as ‘outsiders,’” according to a press release.

OK. I think It's a wrap for homies rap career. Last week the hip-hop world were all talks about Ricky Ross shaky background. Reports were coming out the woodworks that "The Boss" tales of drug dealings and criminal activities might have been nothing more then a rouse. A picture surfaced showing the Miami rap star in what appeared to be police clothing and Trick Daddy is already accusing Ricky of working as a correctional officer.
Ross went on record denying the rumors, but now even more evidence has emerged.

I don’t know what was in Mario Philippona head when he created these pieces of erotic furniture. His work is inspired by the most attractive female forms, and his pieces available for sale are hilarious. The pieces might be unique, but they are to much, for example how would you explain to your kids that the furniture looks like a woman part ? Mario Philippona is a Dutch craftsman that specializes in erotic furniture carvings and he uses the female anatomy as inspiration for his range of cupboards, wardrobes and tables. Mario Philippona said : “The shape of a woman, her organic architecture, combined with my passion for wood inspired me to sculpt these sexy designs.” Finally I don’t think that to many people would buy a piece of furniture like this, and for Mario I would like to suggest to use his skills to create things that are a little bit more useful, and not so vulgar ( or maybe these pieces were created just to get some attention ? ).

Boy band promoter ordered to repay victims $300M
ORLANDO, Fla. - Lou Pearlman and federal authorities have finally agreed on how much the former boy band promoter swindled from banks and investors in a decades-long scam: a staggering $300 million.
That's how much creator of the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync will have to repay, at a minimum, for restitution on the fraud conviction for which he's serving a 25-year prison sentence.
U.S. District Judge G. Kendall Sharpe on Wednesday asked prosecutors and defense attorneys to amend court documents with the agreed amount.
It will be difficult for Pearlman to repay all the money while he is behind bars. Pearlman made millions in the record industry in the 1990s, but investigators have found that money and more seemingly gone with the collapse of his Ponzi scheme.

Hip-Hop superstars Kanye West, Wyclef Jean, and N.E.R.D. have been tagged to perform at the Democratic National Convention next month.
According to The Washington Post, the convention will take place in Denver, Colorado, as the trio will be hitting the stage in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Wyclef has also been known for his humanitarian contributions as he was named ambassador for Haiti earlier this year. Various hip-hop artists like Young Jeezy, Common, and the Black Eyed Pea’s will.i.am have publicly displayed support for Obama.
Other celebrities expected to make appearances are Ed Norton, Forest Whitaker, Scarlett Johansson, Warren Beatty and Ben Affleck.
The Democratic National Convention begins on Monday, August 25.

ROMANCE BETWEEN SEAN "DIDDY" COMBS AND R&B SINGER CASSIE.
This should come as no shock:
Reports are surfacing that the clandestine romance between Sean “Diddy” Combs and R&B singer Cassie is not kaput. Rumor has long put Diddy in a romantic relationship with his protege Cassie. Though they have consistently denied the affair, the pair was photographed last May snuggling in New York City’s Central Park in a manner that appeared to be much more than business.
Still, the evidence is hard to ignore, and now Cassie has allegedly added fuel to the fire with an offhand comment made at a party in New York this week. The 21-year-old singer was leaving the birthday celebration when she was asked to confirm reports she and Combs were no longer an item. She said, “I will confirm that rumor.” But there’s more. A party goer reportedly told Us Weekly magazine Cassie and Diddy were later seen “slipping out” together after the bash.

THE GAME GETS INTO A FIGHT AFTER FAMILY FUNERAL
According to TMZ, the Compton rapper got into an altercation with a cousin at the funeral service of another relative recently. Prior to the service, family members were allegedly already upset with Game because he offered to pay for half of the funeral charges totaling $14,000, but when it came time to collect the funds the rapper was not available.
Robert "Kirky" Kirkwood, a relative of The Game, told the gossip Web site that the rapper then unexpectedly arrived at the funeral and afterward he stepped to Game to discuss the money situation. An altercation ensued in which Kirky claims in a police report that Game punched him in the face.

According to hitsdailydouble.com 50 Cent and the boyz are going to come up short when the numbers for T.O.S. become available on Wednesday. The music sales tracking site is saying that 50 Cent's posse G-Unit, will have a one-week total of 110k for its new album, their first in 5 years.
This is a far cry from their last album Beg For Mercy which sold 4 million albums worldwide.

NADAL OUTLASTS FEDERER IN EPIC FINAL TO HALT STREAK AT FIVE
Rafael Nadal ended Roger Federer's reign Sunday with an epic back-and-forth, five-set triumph in London, becoming the first player since Bjorn Borg in 1980 to win Wimbledon and the French Open in the same year.
The left-hander beat Federer 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7 to halt the Swiss player's five-year title streak at Wimbledon and 65-match run on grass.
Rafael Nadal prevailed 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7 in the longest final in Wimbledon history.
"I lost the last two finals -- close finals," Nadal told the BBC after the match. "But he's still the No. 1. He's still the best. He's still five-time champion here. Right now I have one, so for me it's very, very important day."
Nadal fell onto his back in exhilaration at the baseline. With his shirt caked with turf, he congratulated Federer and climbed into the players' box to embrace his entourage. He had tears in his eyes as he grabbed a Spanish flag and went to the edge of the Royal Box to shake hands with Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Spain.
The 4 hour, 48-minute match -- interrupted during the third set by a one-hour rain delay and a shorter break in the fifth -- was the longest championship match in Wimbledon history. BUSTA RHYMES DROPPED FROM INTERSCOPE
As reported by Thisis50.com, sources indicate that the dropping of Busta Rhymes comes just days after he had a heated argument and phone conversation over his tracks with Interscope Records President, Jimmy Iovine.
I don't know what was said during this conversation, but it had to be some really foul shit goin' on for Busta to be dropped fast. Maybe it's just a rumor. I'm hoping it's just a rumor. But something fishy is goin' on in the house that Jimmy Iovine built.

ALBUM REVIEW
Determined to make it on his own terms and his own time, Immortal Technique has always stood out—and apart—from the pack. Since arriving on the scene with Revolutionary Vol. 1 in 2001, the Harlem representer has been known to spit hard hitting narratives about the pitfalls of life, race relations, politics, history, and religion. 2003’s Revolutionary Vol. 2 picked up where the original left off and introduced Technique to a wider audience while displaying a more lyrically mature rapper.
Though not the most polished, or politically correct MC, Technique can always be relied on for the real: raw, uncut, and uncensored. Perhaps, more important than the beats or the cadence of the hook are the lessons embedded in the music. To the politically conscious Hip Hop fan that may not be up on important current events or other events of historical significance, Technique provides that gateway to greater knowledge. Vol. 2 hipped many to the CIA’s top secret experiment MKUltra (“The 4th Branch”) or the late Sen. Paul Wellstone (“The Cause of Death”) and 2004’s “Bin Laden” explored the role of the United States’ interventions in Middle Eastern affairs.
Nearly five years after his last outing, Technique returns with The 3rd World. Despite the prints of DJ Green Lantern all over the disc, this is a complete album in mix tape form. And with this year being a critical year in the history of the United States—and by extension, the rest of the world—this album comes at the perfect time and may prove to be one of the most important releases of 2008.
Powered by a single which share’s the album’s name, Technique takes listeners around the world, outlining atrocities that “makes the hood in America look like paradise.” “I’m from where they lost the true meaning of the Qur’an/cause heroine is not compatible with Islam/and niggas know that but grow that poppy seed anyway/cause that food wrapped parachute does not come every day,” he spits on the opening verse. Also thrown in are lines about the sex trade and if you thought Coke—as in the soda—didn’t have blood on its hands, think again. The 3rd World alone provides enough Google worthy material to keep one busy for hours—but that’s just the beginning.
“Harlem Renaissance” is another standout track that serves as an autobiography of the world famous New York area, outlining the glory days and concluding with the current efforts to gentrify the historic city. In an era where diamonds and rings dominate, “Renaissance” provides a teachable moment for anyone not up on American history.
The 3rd World shows a real progression in Immortal Technique’s music. Production on the album outshines his past efforts, allowing the lyrics to stand out more. But the gems of the album are found in the numerous collaborations. In the past, Technique opted to go for self, but enlists the help of others for this outing. The Crooked I and Chino XL assisted “Lick Shots” is one of the best tracks of the album with all three men bringing their A games into the booth. Equal parts pointed lyricism and comedy, Tech rhymes “I’ll paint the white house black and park my car on the lawn/I’ll marry a Muslim girl and fuck her five times a day/right before we shower and pray.” Even with solid verses from Technique and Crooked I its Chino XL who steals the show. “Y’all don’t lick shots like killers aiming at the feds/y’all lick shots like Jenna Jameson and Superhead.” Rewind worthy indeed. “Payback” is also a provocative cut, taking aim at everyone from gangsters (“and everyone flashing a gun on a DVD, I’ll make them niggas shoot it out with NYPD”) to George W. Bush, whom Technique urges to “kill yourself.”
One of the staples of Immortal Technique albums are the commentaries, and The Third World provides no exception. “Open Your Eyes” ties the seldom reported on developing countries to the seldom seen—and seldom heard—underground world of Hip Hop. “Parole” offers a glimpse into prison life not often glorified in many of today’s songs: getting out—and staying out. “Mistakes” and “Reverse Pimpology” also do not fail to disappoint, and for listeners who want a twist on the music, “Golpe De Estado” brings the Revolución in Español.
At times, the mixing and scratches detract from the The 3rd World, but aren’t enough to take anything away from the album. Hardcore Technique fans will love this, and new fans will come away with a wealth of knowledge—just make sure to keep the search feature handy if you bump this on the computer.

Nas Is Coming. As if 50 Cent doesn't have enough enemies to contend with - Young Buck, The Game, Fat Joe and Shaniqua Tompkins - Nas is throwing his hat in the ring as another adversary for the G-Unit general.
Apparently Nas is finally ready to take aim at Fif after being on the receiving end of many insults over the past few years. On the track "Queens Get The Money" from his much anticipated album Untitled, Nas seemingly fires a dart at the fellow Queens native. Though he doesn't directly call out 50, it can be assumed from lyrics like this.
"Niggas is still hatin' / talkin that Nas done fell off with rhyming / he'd rather floss with diamonds / they pray please god let him spit that oozie in the army lining that shorty doo-wop rolling oowops in the park reclining take twenty-seven mc's put em / in a line and they out of alignment / my assignment said she said retirement hiding behind 8 Mile and The Chronic / get rich but dies rhyming / this is high science / now add 23 more from Queens to B'more / I'm over they heads like a bulimic on a seesaw / Now that's 50 porch monkeys ate up at the same time"
Uh oh. Could we be on the verge of "Ether 2?" 50 better be careful here. He has to take into account he's never been to war with anyone like Nas. While he's bumped heads (pause) with Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, The Game, and now Young Buck, Nas has been to battle with Notorious B.I.G and Jay-Z. There is no question Escobar would be his toughest lyrical competition to date.
Where are the G-Unit soldiers? Talk to me. Is 50 about to be ethered or is Nas about to be one dead "n*gger?"

NAS - QUEENS GET THE MONEY ....... "ILL SHIT"
On his last LP, Nas killed hip-hop to clear ground for a glorious resurrection, starring himself as mortician-turned-messiah. "Hip-hop was aborted," he raps on this new track from his forthcoming album, "so Nas breathes life back into the embryo." Fittingly, "Queens Get the Money" is elementary, omitting the drums and bass that have been hip-hop's lifeblood. Up-and-comer Jay Electronica's track is just skating piano phrases, of a piece with Child Rebel Soldiers' glassy, Thom Yorke-sampling mixtape cut "Us Placers".
Lyrically, Nas offers up a digest of his own tics: We get a couple brain-melting similes ("I'm over they heads like a bulimic on a seesaw"), some sociopolitical laments ("Pregnant teens give birth to intelligent gangsters, they daddies faceless"), hood-status touchiness ("Talking that Nas done fell off with rhyming/ He'd rather floss with diamonds"), and megalomaniacal fantasy (uh, remember when Nas "punched down devils that brought down the towers"?).
He really does have something deep and trenchant to say about the state of hip-hop, if you can ferret it out from the free-associative boilerplate: Consider the conflation of "Huey P. and Louis V.," alongside Nas' new moniker, "Nasty NASDAQ." Revolution blurs into fashion, outlaw rappers become legitimate businessmen, and a music born of the revolutionary spirit reckons with its assimilation into what it rails against.

MADONNA AND ALEX RODRIGUES: A MATCH MADE IN GOSSIP RAG HEAVEN
Circumstantial evidence linking one of the biggest pop icons of the last 30 years with one of the greatest baseball players of all-time? Sounds like a job for Us magazine. The latest concoction has the soon-to-be bankrupted former Mrs. Guy Ritchie romantically involved with Alex Rodriguez, Yankees slugger and noted lover of she-male, muscular types. The evidence is a series of reported late night visits by A-Rod to Madonna's "spacious" home that has "all the doormen" talking.
I mean, the evidence pretty much speaks for itself. They have the same manager! (Joe Girardi?) Her son wore Yankees gear, which clearly no one else in New York does! Jose Canseco hates A-Rod, and he use to date Madonna! Color me a bit skeptical, but when a magazine like Us gets even a whiff of a story that would be as big as this, they latch on to whatever flimsy evidence they can get.
Either way, you can bet A-Rod will be hearing about this the next time the Yankees play in Boston.
