VH1 DOCUMENTS NWA’S RISE TO FAME, COUNTS DOWN HIP-HOP’S GREATEST SONGS

VH1 will continue its’ steady streak of hip-hop programming by debuting two new shows, “VH1 Rock Doc: NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group” and “100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs,” beginning next month.

According to Billboard, the first show will be a five-part running series highlighting the most celebrated hip-hop songs with in-depth looks at the background story behind each record and informing viewers to what each artist is currently working on. Original interviews and archived material by rappers Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, OutKast, Eminem and more will be shown throughout the program’s run.

Taking an inside examination of hip-hop’s most gangster rap group, “VH1 Rock Doc: NWA” will show the West Coast pact’s origin by using interviews from former group members Ice Cube, MC Ren, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella plus Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright, Ice-T and director John Singleton. Written and directed by Mark Ford, the show will be narrated by comedian Chris Rock.

“100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs” is scheduled to air Monday, September 3 while “VH1 Rock Doc: NWA” will show on Friday, October 3 exclusively on VH1.

In related news, the cable network will be celebrating its’ 5th annual “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” next month. Known for paying homage to rap pioneers, this year’s event - which finds comedian Tracey Morgan returning for hosting duties - will be honoring Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty by Nature, Slick Rick and Too $hort.

The event will also feature rap superstars Lil’ Wayne, Ghostface Killah, Bun B, Scarface, Q-Tip, Wyclef Jean and many more honoring this year’s honorees.

The 5th annual “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” airs on Monday, October 6 at 10 p.m. EST.
