COUNTDOWN !!! 12 DAYS TILL HISTORY IS MADE.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Republican accusations against Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama have come fast and thick, from palling around with terrorists to being a tax-loving socialist.
But Obama has proven surprisingly adept at shrugging off rival John McCain's attacks and opinion polls show McCain is the one whose image has suffered from the negativity.
"Obama has handled himself very calmly and in many ways has seemed steadier than McCain -- and McCain has really helped him create that impression," said Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center.
"He's tried a lot of things. Obama has done a good job of countering them."
Obama's resiliency has surprised Republican strategists who entered the campaign for the November 4 election believing he was vulnerable to the sort of attacks that helped bring down recent Democratic candidates like John Kerry and Al Gore.
Republican consultant Kevin Madden, an aide to Mitt Romney during his presidential run and to President George W. Bush in 2004, said Obama was helped by McCain's failure to settle on a clear line of attack.
Bush hammered Kerry in 2004 as a "flip-flopper" for months until "about 40 days before the election, it kicked in," Madden said. Gore was relentlessly mocked in 2000 as an elitist who was out of step with mainstream America.
McCain, a veteran Arizona senator, flipped quickly through similar attacks and many more in the months since Obama clinched the Democratic nomination in June, never settling on a theme.
The McCain campaign hit the reset button far too often," Madden said. "Obama emerged from the primaries with a lot of vulnerabilities but making those into liabilities required a very consistent focus that they never developed."

$700 BILLION BAILOUT

In what is being described as part of the biggest bailout package in the U.S. since the Great Depression, the White House is asking Congress to allow the government to takeover US$700 billion in bad debts.
If Congress approves the plan, a draft of which was obtained by The Associated Press early Saturday, it would give Washington broad power to buy bad mortgages of any American financial institution in the next two years.
The plan does not specify what the government would get in return for the bailout.
The Bush Administration also wants to raise the legal limit on the national debt from $10.6 trillion to $11.3 trillion to allow for the bailout.
"We're going to work with Congress to get a bill done quickly," U.S. President George Bush said at the White House.

Obama-Biden ticket ready to debut
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- Thousands of supporters were expected at a Saturday rally in Springfield, Illinois, to see the debut of Sen. Barack Obama and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as a presidential ticket.
Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, announced his selection of Biden as his running mate with a 3 a.m. text message and a statement on his official Web site.
"Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee," the text message said.
The 65-year-old senator who ran twice for president was informed of the decision Thursday, said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.
In an e-mail sent to supporters Saturday morning, Obama wrote: "Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois -- the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.
"I'm excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can't do this alone. We need your help to keep building this movement for change."

NAS JOINS PROTEST AGAINST FOX

By: Brandi Hopper
On the track “Sly Fox,” off his newly released album, Nas calls the Fox network out for feeding viewers “toxins.” Now he's joining over 600,000 others who are protesting what they deem as media poison from the news network.
Nas recently joined a campaign waged by grassroots organizations ColorofChange.org and MoveOn.org to deliver well over a half a million signatures to stop what they call racist smearing against African-Americans, including possible democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. They’ll drop the petition off at the Fox’s Manhattan headquarters tomorrow.
On “Sly Fox,” he raps, "Watch what you watchin', Fox keeps feeding us toxins, Stop sleeping, Start thinking" and "I pledge allegiance to the fair and balanced truth/Not the biased truth/Not the liar's truth/But the highest truth."
The protesters charge Fox with broadcasting a “veiled attempt to prey on racism and intolerance and cast the Obamas as ‘outsiders,’” according to a press release.
The group specifically cites an on-screen graphic that referred to Michelle Obama as “Obama’s baby mama;” an incident in which a pundit seemingly confused Barack Obama with “Osama” and joked that they should both be assassinated; and a comment made my an anchor about a picture of Barack and Michelle giving each other a pound, calling it a “terrorist fist jab.” The group also takes issue with Bill O’Reilly’s February comment, calling for a “lynching party” for Michelle, among other incidents.
"When Fox talks about lynching the woman who may soon be our First Lady and then refers to this wife and mother as a 'baby mama,' they are maligning not only the Obamas, but Black women and Black people across this country," said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org.
"Fox poisons the country with racist propaganda and tries to call it news," Nas said.

IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE- THE 3rd WORLD

ALBUM REVIEW
Determined to make it on his own terms and his own time, Immortal Technique has always stood out—and apart—from the pack. Since arriving on the scene with Revolutionary Vol. 1 in 2001, the Harlem representer has been known to spit hard hitting narratives about the pitfalls of life, race relations, politics, history, and religion. 2003’s Revolutionary Vol. 2 picked up where the original left off and introduced Technique to a wider audience while displaying a more lyrically mature rapper.
Though not the most polished, or politically correct MC, Technique can always be relied on for the real: raw, uncut, and uncensored. Perhaps, more important than the beats or the cadence of the hook are the lessons embedded in the music. To the politically conscious Hip Hop fan that may not be up on important current events or other events of historical significance, Technique provides that gateway to greater knowledge. Vol. 2 hipped many to the CIA’s top secret experiment MKUltra (“The 4th Branch”) or the late Sen. Paul Wellstone (“The Cause of Death”) and 2004’s “Bin Laden” explored the role of the United States’ interventions in Middle Eastern affairs.
Nearly five years after his last outing, Technique returns with The 3rd World. Despite the prints of DJ Green Lantern all over the disc, this is a complete album in mix tape form. And with this year being a critical year in the history of the United States—and by extension, the rest of the world—this album comes at the perfect time and may prove to be one of the most important releases of 2008.
Powered by a single which share’s the album’s name, Technique takes listeners around the world, outlining atrocities that “makes the hood in America look like paradise.” “I’m from where they lost the true meaning of the Qur’an/cause heroine is not compatible with Islam/and niggas know that but grow that poppy seed anyway/cause that food wrapped parachute does not come every day,” he spits on the opening verse. Also thrown in are lines about the sex trade and if you thought Coke—as in the soda—didn’t have blood on its hands, think again. The 3rd World alone provides enough Google worthy material to keep one busy for hours—but that’s just the beginning.
“Harlem Renaissance” is another standout track that serves as an autobiography of the world famous New York area, outlining the glory days and concluding with the current efforts to gentrify the historic city. In an era where diamonds and rings dominate, “Renaissance” provides a teachable moment for anyone not up on American history.
The 3rd World shows a real progression in Immortal Technique’s music. Production on the album outshines his past efforts, allowing the lyrics to stand out more. But the gems of the album are found in the numerous collaborations. In the past, Technique opted to go for self, but enlists the help of others for this outing. The Crooked I and Chino XL assisted “Lick Shots” is one of the best tracks of the album with all three men bringing their A games into the booth. Equal parts pointed lyricism and comedy, Tech rhymes “I’ll paint the white house black and park my car on the lawn/I’ll marry a Muslim girl and fuck her five times a day/right before we shower and pray.” Even with solid verses from Technique and Crooked I its Chino XL who steals the show. “Y’all don’t lick shots like killers aiming at the feds/y’all lick shots like Jenna Jameson and Superhead.” Rewind worthy indeed. “Payback” is also a provocative cut, taking aim at everyone from gangsters (“and everyone flashing a gun on a DVD, I’ll make them niggas shoot it out with NYPD”) to George W. Bush, whom Technique urges to “kill yourself.”
One of the staples of Immortal Technique albums are the commentaries, and The Third World provides no exception. “Open Your Eyes” ties the seldom reported on developing countries to the seldom seen—and seldom heard—underground world of Hip Hop. “Parole” offers a glimpse into prison life not often glorified in many of today’s songs: getting out—and staying out. “Mistakes” and “Reverse Pimpology” also do not fail to disappoint, and for listeners who want a twist on the music, “Golpe De Estado” brings the Revolución in EspaƱol.
At times, the mixing and scratches detract from the The 3rd World, but aren’t enough to take anything away from the album. Hardcore Technique fans will love this, and new fans will come away with a wealth of knowledge—just make sure to keep the search feature handy if you bump this on the computer.

INSIDE BARACK OBAMAS'S iPOD.

Barack Obama is a Stevie Wonder geek. In the Democratic presidential candidate’s new interview with Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Jann S. Wenner, Obama waxed rhapsodic about his favorite artists, many of whom — Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Jay-Z — have shown him love with endorsements.
“If I had one musical hero, it would have to be Stevie Wonder,” says Obama, who grew up on Seventies R&B and rock staples including Earth, Wind and Fire, Elton John and the Rolling Stones. “When I was at that point where you start getting involved in music, Stevie had that run with Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Fulfillingness’ First Finale and Innervisions, and then Songs in the Key of Life. Those are as brilliant a set of five albums as we’ve ever seen.”
Wonder shares room on Obama’s iPod with “everything from Howlin’ Wolf to Yo-Yo Ma to Sheryl Crow,” he says. “And I have probably 30 Dylan songs on my iPod.” Though he’s partial to 1975’s Blood on the Tracks, “Maggie’s Farm” is “one of my favorites during the political season,” says Obama. “It speaks to me as I listen to some of the political rhetoric.”
While his musical tastes tend towards the old-school, Obama is in touch with today’s creative top dogs: He’s talked policy with Ludacris, referenced Jay-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” (with a brushing motion in response to Hillary Clinton-hurled criticisms) in a campaign speech, and joined acts ranging from Usher to Will.i.am at rallies. “Every time I talk to Jay-Z, who is a brilliant talent and a good guy, I enjoy how he thinks,” says Obama, who believes that the recent political galvanization of America’s youth will soon be reflected in music. “He’s serious and he cares about his art,” he adds. “That’s somebody who is going to start branching out and can help shape attitudes in a real positive way.”
For the entire interview, check out the new issue of Rolling Stone.
